AT THE WALDORF ASTORIA???

For when you get older you stay at home.
I used to love watching the Ball fall and seeing
all the Ballroom's and dancing. It's not pretty
anymore and I don't even watch
the TV that night.

TIMES SQUARE NYC

IT"S NEW YEARS EVE!!!!!!

NEW YEAR"S EVE CELEBRATE!!

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE WORDS TO AULD LANG SYNE?

usually sung when you are so drunk you
don't have a clue what you are singing..
It was written by Robert Burns 1788.

Should old Acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance beforgot and old lang syne?

For old Lang syne, my dear,
for old lang syne,
We'll take a cup o'kindness yet,
for old lang syne.

HOW DO YOU LIKE IT SO FAR??
.This year the Chinese New Year starts Feb. 14 th.
Dec. 21 of 1999 marked the MAYAN year starting the 13 years of the very last cycle???
Can you believe it?? A 13 year count down?
I guess we had all better start standing up and taking responsibility.
SO LIVE, LIVE, LIVE A GOOD LIFE. Love and be happy.
I wish you all a wonderful and successful , healthy New Year.

Christmas in Sligo Ireland Dec.23, 2009

Happy Christmas in Gaelic
"Nollaig Shona Dhuit"

Christmas is celebrated from Dec.24
to Jan. 6th the feast of Epiphany.

Of course Hot Plum Pudding and
Midnight Mass ,Christmas Eve.
I grew up like that.

************************************************
I bet all you designers could do a better job on this staircase..

This is the Oldest Court House I have ever been in.
My husband was in awe at the interior,
There will never be the likes of this again.

I hope Ireland will save it.

THIS TREE IS ALL CRYSTAL

After all they have WATERFORD

Can you imagine Lead crystal chandelier's in the street?

Just one Quote;
Winston Churchill said:

We have always found the Irish ODD.

They refuse to be English.

The Irish are so warm and Helpful.
If your car is in the ditch they come running to help.
Every one I met was Kind.
The first time I went to Ireland.
I woke up in Sligo.
I Looked out the window of my hotel .
There were Kid's swimming in the
Garavogue river below the Hotel.window.
It was May and about 30 degrees .
It was like waking up in the 1700's.
There were Swans all over Ireland.

Try To Visit SLIGO and that Atlantic coast
up north Donagal, Kellybegs --Go all the way up.

It's just beautiful.

Countess Contance Markievicz Sligo Ireland

The Countess in her Grand Ball Gown

The Countess as a young Feminist /Relatives GORE-BOOTH Family
Dec. 18,2009

Portrait by Szankowski
1868-1927 Irish Nationalist

Countess Constance Markievicz was the first
woman ever appointed to the British House of commons .

I learned about this woman the first week in Ireland.

The Markievicz house in town is where my cousin

Fidelma took me to get the papers on the Family.
I had been at the Lissadell house ( GORE _ BOOTH)
It was the first time I saw real forget me nots.I grow them in Maine.
William Butler Yeats use to stay there,
My Cousin's grandmother is buried next to Yeats.

This woman was Jailed fighting In the Easter uprising 1916.
During that time it was called the IRA The originals.

.

Constance was born to the Gore-Booth family.
He father was an arctic explorer, so she had an adventurous side.
She was a Feminist,a guerrilla fighter,an artist,a parliamentarian,
PRISONER and FUGITIVE.

Married Count Casimir Markievicz from the Ukrain.

There is a lot more on this interesting woman
check her out.

One of the Darkest Days of Irish History.

CLASSIEBAWN CASTLE
Just out of Sligo Town down this coastal road.

* Lord/Earl Mountbatten of Burma*****

In Memory of a Great Man And his Family

August 27, 1979- to - 2009 -

THIRTY YEARS LATER A Day of sorrow and shame. The Murder of The Earl Of Mountbatten of Burma.A service at the pier in Mullaghmore, County Sligo was held Aug.28 2009. Lord Mountbatten, his grandson Nicholas. A 15 year old local boy Paul Maxwell , was a deck hand on the Shadow V. Lady Brabourne an 83 year old died of injuries the next day. The Classiebawn staff and the castle's present owner a retired meat baron Hugh Tunny were there for the service.

Lord Mountbatten and his family were blown up on his boat.
The Shadow V that he moored in Mullagamore.
He always had police around the castle the month of August.
The boat was not watched. So the IRA bastards had access to the boat.
Now I know why the Irish are so afraid.
I went into a Pub to ask directions and saw an old poster " Loose Lips Sink Ships."
The People I know in Sligo are so very sad and ashamed for what the
Crazy Terrorist's did.
I am sure they are not really Irish.
To do something so bad, an old woman and man and teenagers..
Well I Feel bad about the whole thing.. We should never forget.
God Bless all.

Celtic Ancestors SLIGO IRELAND

This is the Northern Coast line of Ireland. This is not my Grand Mother's house but, just to give you some idea
what it must have looked like. This is my Great Grandmothers house. The road along the coast from my grandmother Kate's house is just on the edge of the Atlantic ocean .

***************************************************************************************

Classeybawn Castle
You can bike to the castle along the coast road.
There are mussels and cockler shells ( Scallop shell ) below on the shore.
I will do my next post on Lord Mountbatten and Countess Markievicz.
Arriving on the site of Grand Mother Kate's Cottage
It was 14 acres along on the old coast road.
There was the cottage no roof.
If there is no roof you pay """no tax."
Lots of rock walls and a rock barn.
She had Ginny's.???I didn't know it was a donkey.
Must have used them for the cart.
The fire place was used for cooking
fantastic iron pots and stuff.

NO NO Yvonne not on the plane.
The grass is long and cuts like a knife
and the ground is bog my foot sank .
The wind was so wild. I had goose bumps
thinking back to the 1700's
They burn Peet in the fire place.

Hope you don't find this boring,

bye bye for now,, Yvonne

Do you like Bette Davis Films??

NOW VOYAGER

I cry every time, at the end of the movie
Bette says "shall we smoke on it?"
Then she says "why wish for the MOON when we have the stars."
OMG! I am starting to cry,

Now THE LETTER IS JUST WICKED!!!! There is a scene at the end ....the sky gets wicked black and as it rolls by , There it is --, THE MOON. I have tried to paint that sky. every time I see this film........... I love drama .
The Chinese woman is played by Gail Sondergaard. In real life her husband was Herbert Biberman. On Hollywood's Black list .. in 1948
That was an awful time, people were ratting on each other. Govt. at it's worst.

Go to HOLLYWOOD "S BLACK LIST and get the hell scared out of you.

BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING......You can bet on it!!

What are your favorite Bette films?

The Famous Grand Hotel

The music in this movie was beautiful.
Mr Reeves was just wonderful and I own the movie.

It is so sad what happened to him.
He is not forgotten.

If you haven't seen this Movie and you are A romantic get it.

I have to tell you, I have Da Ja Vue when it comes to this place.
I have never even been in the State.
My girlfriends were all going to watch the movie .
Came late in the middle of the movie..
I said That's the grand Hotel. It was spooky weird, it was.
Over the years I had lots of books on famous old resorts.
Maybe that's what I had stored in my memory,.who knows..
This happens to me often.. It's the feeling I have been there before.
My Hotel was haunted for real.. Ask the new owners .
Happy days, I am out of there.
