Looking for BuffleHeads

O.K. YOU BUFFLEHEADS COME ON!.
THESE TINY DUCKS
ARE SO BEAUTIFUL

GOD GAVE US A WONDERFUL WORLD..
I LOVE TO WALK ALONG THE COVE THIS TIME OF YEAR THEY ARE IN ABUNDANCE ,Little Buffleheads

When I first moved into our new house, I drove all the back streets, every street is interesting.
One day going for Lobster I saw Bufflehead Lane. I thought , Mainers come up with the
wildest ideas. Like a flower bed they put a real bed and plant flowers in it.
The first time I saw that bed in the yard I was laughing so hard I had to pull the car off the road.
Then there is a Post Office Street and a post Office. Plumber road has a plumber. Weeks later I saw some gorgeous black and white small ducks. I looked them up in my Audubon Bird book. I was shocked
BUFFLEHEADS. Above is a duck house.. $69.00 Also a decoy $69 and up.

The Females have a smaller white cheek

Macho, Macho Man, I want to be

Chatting about Alewives of Maine

ALEWIVES ARE A COMIN THERE"S FISHING TONITE,
ALEWIVES ARE A COMIN THERE"S DANCIN TONITE.
old Patti Page song

AERIAL PHOTO OF COAST

Here is the tiny alewife that gets them crazy
This is going on at the end of the cove where the stream empties into
the cove I live on.

The bucket is brining the alewives other's smoke them

These guy's are all wet..

Here is a cute guy on Harrington Cone having a day of fun. He smokes them.

This is an old photo of the Darmariscotta Mills. I took Renee, my Daughter there several years ago. There is the oldest Catholic Church there on a hill it is just beautiful ...
Here's a guy at the end of my Street netting the Alewvives

The Alewives run in the end of April/May. It is taken pretty seriously in Darmariscotta, the industry supports 400 jobs in the area, some OLD TIMERS smoke them, but most are used for bait for lobsters like herring.
The latest is they are shutting down the factory.
Around here it is the Festival of Spring
I bet you have never heard of Alewives.

Maybe pseudoharengus ? ALEWIVES IN MID COAST MAINE
Alewives have been fished here since the early 1800's.
At that time it was for human consumption.
They are very prized a delicacy in the Orient.
The size of a sardine. Maybe bigger.
They come into the salt water coves and rivers to spawn
from July to November.
Alewives are native to the Maine coast.
They have a big run in the Darmariscotta River and
here in Harrington cove.

Our Bald Eagles, Osprey and the big Blue Heron love them for dinner.
Every evening a Great Blue Heron flies along the cove only inches

from the surface of the water.
Hope I didn't bore you.

Ta-Ta for now

Breaking News RED PAINT PEOPLE found in Maine

BREAKING NEWS, RED PAINT PEOPLE
ARITIFACT FOUND ON SAINT GEORGE RIVER

More below on the lecture.

Painting to left of first English settlers

Painting to right is mine of Pemaquid Indian camp
The Indian is wearing RED OCHER PAINT
she is not from New England,

Painting to left is mine of the St Geo.River

Artifacts found along Saint George River in Maine.

A cave like built hut

Went to a lecture here are some things will explain further down.
All finds each one different He also had copper coins from King Philip and others. Belt Buckles and Hair combs
BELOW IS A LONG HOUSE WIGWAM
Here are some things that were explained to us. arrow heads and tools

WIGWAMS New England Indians

The Pre -Historic were great sea men Their canoes were huge and at some sites were found old swordfish bones. Now you have to go out pretty far for thatfish.

. A Round wigwam Wigwam

They built them very big

Saint George River
Yesterday at the Midcoast Women's Club in Camden, we had a speaker Chris Adams. He brought in relic's for 40 minutes unpacking them with the help of his Son. Then the lecture began. I was so excited as all his finds were

almost in my back yard..I couldn't believe that all this time I have been here I never knew. One of the earliest White Settler's village in ruin's and all the Red Paint artifact on the St. George River.
These people existed two thousand years before the Pyramids. It is such a Mystery. They just Vanished....In 1892 CC Willoughby Archaeologist of the Peabody Museum of Harvard , was on an Archeology dig in Bucksport Maine. They found mounds and when the shovel went into the earth it started to bleed. (the red ocher) The tools and relic's found were much more sophisticated and highly more developed craftsmanship that the Indians we know. They made excellent large boats. They found SWORDFISH BONES in the digs so they were capable of going out pretty far in the ocean.Very religious with burials they seemed very concerned about the afterlife.

The stone artifacts are unlike any of the Indians that later occupied this territory.

Paleolithic People the "Red Paint " Indians.
The early New Englander's that found the red ocher graves regarded them with extreme suspicion.
To find one was a bad or evil omen . . So much for that....They found that the red ocher was good to paint furniture with Decorating started then in America. Shell mounds are still found it took centuries to get them so large.
This is where they had clam Bakes at the shore side and tools and relics were found in the heaps of shells.
They found 2 skeletons in red ocher graves but the bones turned to dust when the air hit them.

During this lecture I found out the first St. George Fort was at the mouth of the St George River near Cushing .
He also found English silver coins on the shore (George Rex) and King Philip
SO that's That.. Wonder where they went..wonder what they looked like...

Wonder where they came from.. VIKINGS???
Earliest White Settlement . All in my neighborhood ..
