The sport of Kings

Horse racing is the second most widely attended spectator sport in America. The first race track was laid out on Long Island in 1665. Then the American Stud book began in 1868. By 1890 there were 314 race tracks across America. In 1894 America's most prominent track and stable owners met to form the Jockey club in 1894 The Jockey club was formed in England in 1702 during Queen Anne's reign and to this day exercises complete control over English Racing.

You too could have flamingo's if you put out as much shrimp as as the race track does. It is very expensive to feed these babies.

These birds the Egyptians worshiped. They are found in Africa, Peru,Caribbean, on lakes and marshes. They fly 300 miles a night and during the day they fly very high to avoid predators.Their bond is very strong, they are social and some colonies
are in the thousands, Scientists say they are dying out near Kenya because of the avian cholera or pesticides. Some Flamingo's have different colors, it's the shrimp in the diet that makes them pink. The babies are born white.

Does anyone know why they stand on one leg?

Can you believe that People would tear down the most elegant track to run a highway through. I remember when that happened it was so awful. we drove to look at the ruins and I couldn't stop crying..

I was just thinking how many race tracks
I have gone to. There are so many more
I wanted to see, such as
Santa Anita and Ascott Downs.
Oh well, I may see them after all not dead yet.

I have been to these:
Calder- Fl
Church Hill Downs -KY
Gulfstream -Fl. Tropical -Fl.
Hialeah- Fl.
Indiana Downs -(opens March 14th)
Laurel Park- Md.
Monmouth Park -NJ
Oaklawn - HotSpringsArkanasas
Ak-sar-ben- Omaha Nebraska (I was Married there.)
Arlington -MD
Fair Grounds- New Orleans
Belmont- NY
Aqueduct -NY

Saying Good Bye NYC

So now we say our Good Bye's to the most fascinating city in the world.
Life in the fast lane, at least for this ole woman. Once you have been there you want to go back. It's the world at your finger tips. So much to see and do , so little time. 4 days and we didn't do half of what I wanted. Missed Sardi's, The Russian Tea room and Henri Bendels etc. My advice go later than April 14th, the flowers will be in bloom. We were too early. Had a ton of fun.

Lunch at the Dining room by skating rink, great memories for me.

Of all the times I have been in Manhattan, never made it to St. Pats. I feel great now.

We didn't get to Sardi's it was a madhouse,
no cabs and raining cats and dogs. The wind
was blowing the umbrellas inside out.
I was wringing wet soaked through

Day Two NYC

Let me tell you,

we covered some ground in NYC on

Friday. The news said Sat. would be raining.

So feet do your stuff! Wagon's HO! Lets go.

And off we went about 9 Am. We walked to the corner and met this Cute NYPD, he told us a good spot to flag a cab to Grand Central Station. They have one ways, and 2 ways. It's best to get on the street going your way.

We got a lot of info.
Park Ave dead ends at Grand Central.
Fifth Ave divides east from west
.Downtown is the Battery,ChinaTown Wall St.
----Uptown is Central Park

Our Hotel was MIDTOWN
It's simple that way.

while Barbie shopped for gifts,
I was asking for the Knock offs,
the vendor said come back at 4pm,
the cops change shifts and
they come out and sell then.
Forget that these legs can't do it.
Besides that put another light on it.

The Veggies looked so fresh, I was getting hungry.

The Seafood stand's made me
think of the gorgeous
sidewalk markets in Paris.
They had flower stands too.

Well Barbie is back and we flag a Cab.

He lets us off and says it's two blocks
he can't get caught in that trap. It was 12:30
and the wind had picked up we were not dressed
for this crazy weather. Thank goodness we brought
the windbreakers.
I looked like the last part of the chicken that flew over the fence.

It is GOD'S will that Saint Paul's is there today.
I get chills thinking of that day
and the man that did it is
still at LARGE never caught.
Where's the Justice?

Bucket List #1

As we walked, I asked a man in a three piece suit

where Beaver and Williams was, Delmonico's,
we found it and I was tired. I was emotionally charged,

having heard of this place and the stories as a child.

Just lost 2 shots of dining room, can't redo this post.

Computer is nuts.

After Lunch we took the tour.
They said walk 2 blocks up
that street and there's
the ferry to Staten Island
Not counting the walk from there.
At last we are off.
You really get a nice view
of Ellis Island and the Statue

#2 Bucket list

After the stories my Mama told me growing up.
( I was always interested in Mama's stories,
today the kid's don't want to hear you)

I was at last riding the Staten Island Ferry.
Thank You God I made it this far,
maybe Mama's not here but the handkerchief is in my hand.

Now we came back to the hotel and Off again to see the Waldorf Astoria.

They used to have like a lovely coffee shop/cafe. Thought we would have a bite there. Gone

Tomorrow night we will be at Anything Goes

with all Cole Porter Music.

We have to be back in the Hotel tomorrow at 3 so I get a nap.

and we are dressing up. I am excited.

This is the famous Bar,
Frank Sinatra used to go to.
Look it up.
Very interesting customers, or patrons.
There is another PJ Clarks also.
I think this was the one to go to.
IF my Daughter calls I'll ask her.

It was 11:30 PM when we got into the Lobby.
The front desk waved said you had a good time!
Of course,we were laughing so much.
I bet we must have talked another half hour
untill someone fell asleep.

Tomorrow Barbie wants to see the Central Park Zoo.
Too da Loo ........for now..

next is day three
