I am so confused.
Will he bite me
Will he listen to me?
Does he have to be walked a lot?
I am old .
Maybe I am not over my dog yet.
What to do ,What to do!!!

Yorkie looks like
she is too prissy
and needs a fortune
in
My Thor was easy,
he jumped in the shower.

I love his face

Alright I need some suggestions what
is the best dog for me?
Please if you can think of a type for me
please let me know.
Thanks so much
yvonne

My Holiday was sad.
I missed my little man
something awful.
An old friend told me
I am to old to get a dog.
That it is unfair to the dog.
What if something happens to me.
I agreed. Because I always worried
if I go in the Hosp.should I di.
who would love him. Food for thought.
My stuff Teddy bear
I squeese and kiss when I miss Thor.

I can't think of any dog
that could replace him.
He did anything to please me.

I have a close friend that has a Westy, and we dog sat him for a few weeks this summer. We didn't have to take him for walks while we dog sat him, but I think his owners take him on short walks.

He seemed to have a happy personality.

Good luck with deciding. I love our german shepherd, but I think the breed might need too much exercise for your tastes!

When the time comes that I will want/need to have another wonderful dog in my life I have already decided that I will go to the shelter and 'offer' to help socialize one or more of their residents. This can be done on a temporary basis, not all relationships work and to me this would be a good way to be with different breeds to see if our needs meet. Of course I just might tumble for the first bundle out the door. Good Luck and we know that giving and receiving love is wonderful no matter the length of it's lasting.

Not a bad one in the bunch, they are all sooo cute! We love our Teddy, a golden retriever if you are considering a big breed, he is the most lovable gentle giant imaginable....but looks like you are focusing on smaller dogs. Good luck!

It is hard to replace a dog that was so cherished such as Thor.

I think there is never a perfect time to get a dog and one must jump in and get one. Would you consider rescuing an older dog, say one that is 6 yrs old, in that way it will be settled and still full of affection. My dear friend who is in her late 70's rescued 2 such dogs this past year and just loves the joy they bring her.
Good luck in your decision.

Since you asked for my input and opinion, Yvonne, here it is: You're not too old to get a dog, just make sure it's not a puppy. There are many older dogs who need homes in every shelter in every state.

I adoped my four year old chihuahua and have had him now for almost four years. But he's a handful so I'm not recommending his breed. I love him dearly though.

An older pug is a nice quiet dog who needs little exercise or grooming.

I wouldn't get a terrier since being terriers they usually require lots of exercise or they get into mischief.

But you might also check out mixed breed dogs, they make fabulous pets and are often healthier than purebreds.

A nice middle aged small or mid-sized dog is waiting for you, Yvonne. I just know it.

Try looking at shelters... there are so many dogs that need homes... I just got my little dog daughter from a shelter over the holidays a year after losing our dogs... my kids begged for a new dog from Christmas... Mademoiselle Lulu is a perfect addition to our home... she is a mix... a Snorkie... Schnauzer/Yorkie!!!

There are so many cute and wonderful dogs out there, and I have been looking at the shelters around here to see what breed or mixed that would work out best for us. My kids desperately want one.

Good luck with your decision, Yvonne!

I wish I had some advice on what kind of dog to get...

I always stick with the dachsunds, they are so cute!

You are probably right that no dog could replace Thor but there will always be a place in your heart for Thor.

We have two westies - Julep and Derby. Are you looking at a rescue or are you looking at a puppy? Depending on what you say would depend on my answer if this is the right pet for you - westies who come from rescue can and most likely will come to you with some health issues - which is mostly due to the food they are feed - westie tend to be allergy prone - meaning - no corn, wheat or soy in their diets, for example. Boys are more loving (in our case) than girls.

If you have any specific questions you can find me on Facebook - I also an the creator of a group page called WESTIES HEALTH -- FROM EARS TO TAIL. All subjects on westie health is open for discussion there.

Also I have two blogs - but go to the one www.westiejulep.blogspot.com should need more info on westies.

All the best in your search ...

Yvonne I have had Scotties in the past and now have a gorgeous Himalayan; Miss Belle.

Terriers are great dogs, protective of their owners, they are terriers though, you might want to read up on them and their personalities. Both of my Scotties were retired show dogs not pupsters!

That said Westies are so darn cute!!

All the Best!

Hi Yvonne,
Thank you so much for visiting me at "Home is Where the Heart is"
It's a pleasure to meet you.
Our family dog of 15 years past away four years ago now. We have been thinking about getting another dog too, but we are just not home enough. I miss our girl "Kona".
My husband is trying to convince me since he just retired, so we'll see.
I have become your newest follower.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth

Hi Yvonne-

NO WAY you are too old to get a new dog! You are full of life and love. Take a look at my blog this week. We were in the same boat as you, but with our cat, who died around the same time as Thor. We mourned for 6 months. Now, we have adopted a new kitty!

A lot of the no-kill shelters have a guarantee that they will take your pet back FOR ANY REASON and try to find him a new home. I know a guy who had adopted 11 cats, all from the same no-kill shelter. When he died, they all went back there, no problem. And most of them were re-adopted! The ones who aren't adopted quickly are given much love by the staff at these shelters, who all really love animals.

Give it a thought. Visit a few no-kill shelters, and see what they have available. I bet you will find the perfect dog for you (pedigree or not!)

I know you miss your beloved Thor! I am so sorry, but maybe a new little friend would brighten things up. That westie is adorable and I am partial to yorkies with sorter hair as well....hmmm, hard decision! xo
