my favorite writer is Guy de Maupassant

How could anyone write so many stories
in such a short life?
He died in his forties.

Henri-René-Albert-Guy de Maupassant
was born 5 August 1850 at the
Château de Miromesnil (Castle Miromesnil,
nearDieppe in the Seine-Inférieure
(nowSeine-Maritime) department in France.
He was the first son of Laure Le Poittevin
and Gustave de Maupassant,
both from prosperous bourgeois families.
When Maupassant was 11 and his brother
Hervé was five, his mother, an independent-minded
woman, risked social disgrace to obtain a legal separation from her husband.

Good gosh Gertie! That is some house.
Guess what it is now a B&B

Chateau de Miromesnil

Housed in a 16th-century château, this
B&B is 1.8 km from the centre of
 Tourville-sur-Arques.

I want to go..    Here are some of his wonderful stories:::

  1. I love just about any of the French authors of this time; when I introduce my high school French students to any of these writers, it bends their minds!

Progressive for their day, witty and wise with the word, they are forever ingrained in our memories.

  2. I remember reading some of his books when I was very young. Can't remember which ones. Never knew there was such a long list.

  4. Lovey post Yvonne, thank you, and the reminder to throw our televisions out the window and limit social media, to free our minds to get creative again. Letter reading and handwriting was once an art - even if we cannot all be fine writers or best selling authors we can at least write meaningful letters... here is a quote. Beethoven's favorite author, Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, once said “Letters are among the most significant memorial a person can leave behind them.
    Have a happy week end

  5. Maupassant is among my favorite authors whose books I read in my youth.
The best writer so far is, to my mind, Gorge Orwell who has depicted with accuracy the world as it wiil be in 1984. We're 22 years after 1984 and the book is more relevant than ever. He was quite a genius and a..prophet

  6. you are still blogging up a storm...and here I am slacking off for months now. lol
I always feel so guilty when one comment comes across and I know I haven't been around to visit anyone lately. I just haven't had the time! I have been on the go go go for months now and there has been a LOT going on around here...you know...kids...life...work

I do hope to be able to share more and visit more in the near future...but then I have been saying that for a while now too! :)
    have a great weekend!
