Here's a bee for your bonnet

Just
had a
memory
of one of
the most
scary
times of
my life.

I had a hotel in N.C. and the handi man came to me that spring morning to say I had to help him there was a problem in the pump room. I had a huge concrete water tank, the well was at the bottom of the mountain and pumped the water up into the tank. We had to empty it every spring and scrub it out with Clorox. It was 12 feet deep. Well some Honey bees had made their home inside the pump room. He said I would have to help him get the bees out. Time was of the essence, so he told me to tie my pant legs, button the cuffs of my shirt, put a hat with a net on and off we went. I walked into the room and bees started to cover my arms, I started screaming. HUGH the handyman said don't get nervous, you'll upset the bees, they know you smoke, they know you are afraid of them, they know you may harm them. By that time I said ;SHUT UP AND GET THE DAMN THINGS OFF ME.
He started to scrape them off very gently. then said I was stepping on them and will make them mad, needless to say I wet my pants. Just a message to you all. DON"T TRY IT.

At least I had a hat with a net, they were this thick on my arms, what a scare.

The bee keepers
are very worried
for the loss of bees
last year. Wonder
what's going on
the bees are leaving.
Maybe the ice age is coming..

I asked what do
they live on
in the winter,
the honey we
steal from them,
and you wonder why
they are dying off.

What to do for a bee sting,
take out the stinger a tiny black dot,
wash with soap and water.
Apply a paste of water and
baking soda. Apply ice wrapped
in a towel, it lasts for a few days
and
if you start to swell up go to the hospital.
Many people die from bee and wasp stings.

  1. GOODNESS YVONNE! That would have been one of the most dreadful experiences for me! WHEW.......nature is beautiful sometimes from a GREAT DISTANCE and dangerous up close. These creatures are facing a dilemma however, and where do we begin? What are we to do?

  2. Oh my Yvonne. This was a scary and informative post at the same time. I give you a lot of credit for getting through this experience. You are very brave...a lot more than I think I would be!

Least you lived to tell the story,,, scary ,,, amazing how situations can occur so quickly, you know you wake one morning, not suspecting something so weird and scary would happen in the afternoon. I guess if you knew you would have stayed in bed...smiles.
