I remember that Sunday
morning Pearl Harbor was Hit,
The Neighbors were running up
the street and hanging on fences
talking and crying to each other
After that we has Ration stamps
for Gas and food, people had
Victory Gardens, Women wereCanning everything.
Bombshelters were being dug.

Here's the books Mamma
had in the
Kitchen Drawer.
Then our scrap drives the kids went all
over Looking in barns garages for metal
and rubber, news papers.
Loose Lips Sink Ships.
Like the over seas letters
we got that every other line was
blacked out.

.There was the black Market we were
told to tell our parents if we saw
something funny.
They were trying to keep prices down
at the Grocery stores. Rising Prices
were bad.
Well That's the way I remember it all.
That was a different world and time.

Nothing like the split country that we live in today.

I hope we're not approaching a new world war - WW3. North Korea with its nuclear experiments, Iran with its chutzpa and nuclear power, Putin and Obama with their explosive egos etc... People are tired of wars, conflicts, terrorism. They want to just live in peace and prosperity.
ReplyDeleteInteresting how they pulled people together by using media radio, t.v. newspapers, billboards, etc, I wonder if it was all really necessary, most of those items were still plentiful here, but made in short supply to the public...
ReplyDeleteMy parents use to talk about all those things, and had a Victory garden,,, before my time, but planted in my memory from parents, relatives, and friends of family, neighbors then came the fifties and a new generation all most of all forgotten, just in a very short few years . then we were implanted with sitcom t.v. and Ozzie and Harriet, Donna Reid, Father knows Best, and they all lived in a fantasy world of the great American Dream,
Hi Yvonne, So many years ago yet so close in thought. My dad was in World War 2 and it was a time of pride and love of country. We sure need to get back to this!!

Many family members of mine spent many years defending our country. I would love to see more unity and
Support for our country, less rioting, less opposing and more understanding.
