1950's HOUSTON, TEXAS

I have been thinking of
my young years in Houston.
My best friend was the soda jerk
at the Lamar Hotel drug store. Mamma
had the Hat shop next door.

hangin around the Juke box
we were always playing Buddy Holly.....................................................
First Job was at the
switchboard in the Rice Hotel. It caught on Fire and I was the last one out with
one other. We rang every room. I started smoking that night.

This was the Airport. I remember
watching my Mother fly out  on a 2 prop Delta, to NYC. Hobby on Airline Dr.

Saw many a Movie at the Majestic
this was the Lobby. All in Egyptian
motif

had great meals here.

/*In high school" Princes Drive In"was
 the meeting
place every Saturday night.

They had great hamburgers.

I owned some of this stock
my Dad gave me.
Took it to an Atty. he said
"worthless". BooHoo!

This place went out of business.
I opened an After Hour Club.
The Show Boat. That's the Shamrock
in background.  My Husband owned the Show Biz across Main Street. There's a story about Steve McQueen here.

Glenn came into my husbands
club one night, he got upset
Black people were allowed in. He
pissed on our front door.
We had Kenny Rogers playing bass ,
Andy Williams was there. I sat at the
table with Arnett Cobb.
Texas was so Racial. My Momma
and I were put off a bus in the heat
because I gave my seat to a
pregnant Black Lady, I was 12 years old.
That part of Texas I hated.

Well, enough of my memories,
I am snowed in and started to remember.
Stay warm if you are up north.
