Check the currency rate on the internet before the trip.,

I wish someone had helped me to understand.
I Knew a pound note only.
Tried to keep track of the paper money.
figured a crown was more because it was bigger.
OH well. I had a good time, except for the food.
In Ireland and England it was very bland.
I made up for it in Paris and Italy.

A pound ==1/20 shillings
or 1/240 Pence
or 1/960 Farthing
Confused?? How about this::A Bob is a Quid
A quid is a Quinea
a Quinea -a farthing

Have You got it?
OK I gather a sixpence is a half shilling
and 1/40 of a pound.
Sixpence is a lucky charm,
put into a christmas pudding
and worn in left shoe for luck.

Couldn't figure this out?? What a beautiful coin.
Maybe wrong but, a florin is 1/10 of a pound
a farthing is probably less than a US penny.
a Farthing is also said to be a fourth of a quarter??????
I feel like it's double talk.
Seventy Three years ago Elizabeth became a Queen
I just found out the Commonwealth of England
includes 53 countries. WOW!

Oh Yvonne,
That was hilarious....it is very confusing but, when you grow up with it, like I did, it was easy. Now that we are decimal, you would be fine.
One crown was worth 5 shillings.
Half a crown was worth 2shillings and sixpence.
A bob was actually worth one shilling.
A quid was a pound.
A florin was 2 shillings
A guines was worth one pound and one shilling ( that one was really strange) !!!!
It was all quite staight forward for us, but very confusing to anyone else !!
We have lots of strange stuff like that Yvonne !! XXXX
Sing a song of sixpence~ a pocket full of rye.... :)
You may have heard by now that the beloved Visual Vamp needs our help.
I am hosting an online auction this Friday to benefit Valorie and could use a bit of help spreading the word.
Please stop by my blog for more details.
Be blessed,
Laura
The sound of the coins is nice to say. I would have no idea who much even with it written out. Kathy

I love visiting lighthouses, maybe some day I will get to visit Maine. My husband spent two years in England, so we have lots of English money laying around, but I don't know a whole lot about it. Interesting post about English currency. I am your newest follower. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Hope you'll come back too!
I remember when I visited Italy when I was young I thought the millions of lira needed to buy something was sort of odd. I liked Ireland's coins as they had a harp design on them.
Of course the EURO system is a lot of countries makes everything much easier!
Oh dear Yvonne, thanks so much for all your encouraging comments and good wishes. My brain cannot fathom all of that now. I was so surprised when we got off the plane, on the tarmac, and walked into the airport in Bermuda. A larger than life banner of QE and I had never even given it a thought, but yes the money was interesting. Blessings
