Extracted in Colombia around 16-17 century.

Sold by Spain to Ottoman Empire Sultan Abdul Hamid  II,
he wore it as a belt buckle.
Then sold in Paris to Tiffany about 1900's.
Annenberg bought it in the 1950's and it was donated
to the Smithsonian.
