Alewives are coming , there's dancin tonight.

The Alewives are not $2000
a pound like Elvers,. But, they
still catch them. Yep! Japanese Market.

You can see a few alewives leaping up streams,
but  want to see thousands of alewives?
Go for the weekend to the Fish Ladder
Restoration Festival in Damariscotta Mills.
There, a saltwater bay and freshwater river meet.
Damariscotta River drops 42 feet to
connect Damariscotta Lake to the bay below.

The Alewives are mostly used as Lobster
Bait, Lobsters like fresh bait.

I find these better looking than eels(Elvers)
of course they don't bring in the money
that Eels do. At one point the Alewife was
on the endangered list.
