Here's another story. The Godman necklace was given to the Queen from
two elderly spinster sisters. They claimed it belonged to Empress Josephine of France.
Now those are what I call jewels! The crowns are amazing.
ReplyDeletegreat photo's Yvonne, the fascination of gems - and what people do to covet them,,
ReplyDeleteI never really appreciated the beauty of jewels, until one day I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was looking at this magnificently decorated sword within it's sheath? all solid gold and encrusted with jewels, a true work of art, and then I began to fully appreciate how extremely beautiful jewels garnered from mother nature then crafted into a form of art actually is.
Hello there dear Yvonne! I LOVE JEWELS. I once went to Tiffany's in New York City and just about fainted when I walked in, being overwhelmed by the shine!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous jewelry! Love the stories as well.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness - such gorgeous jewelry! The Marie Antoinette necklace is so very pretty. So sad that she never got to wear it, but it certainly was ostentatious when the populace was starving. But isn't that the way it's always been? These baubles must be heavy - they would give me a serious head-ache - first for the weight and then for the worry of being robbed. Emeralds are truly lovely. I love sapphires and rubies, too. There is something so wonderful about colored stones.....Hope you are enjoying these lovely June days. xx Karen
