This is on 20 acres between the ocean and a lake,

Marjorie Merriweather Post bought the land and

had this magnificent Mansion built 1920's

was a mere 110,000 square feet.

She commissioned Marion Wyeth

to design it and Joseph Urban
to design the interiors,
He did all the stage settings
for Flo Ziefield's Follies.
He was influenced by Venetian

and Spanish architectural elements.

The house consisted of :: ;

58 bedrooms
33 baths
12 fireplaces
3 bomb shelters.
Golf course
etc.etc. etc.


It was said, the Dining room had real gold leaf walls.
The Dining room table weighed 2 tons and took 17 artist's a year

to make it had precious stones inlaid on the top.

A secret place for the bell for her to ring for

the staff, service. Cha Cha Cha!!!

There were 75 caretakers at Mar a Largo
They also had a very special railroad car

called the Hussar. Now that is really living.

During the depression Marjorie gave food to the salvation Army
to help the starving people. I am sure she did a lot of good with her millions.

Marjorie had four Husbands

1 Mr. Close a banker from Conn.

2 E.F. Hutton he incorp. Post foods into General Mills.

3 Joseph Davies Atty.became an ambassador and they lived in Russia during the revolution.

They brought back many fantastic art objects. What a time that was.

There is also, The Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens at 4155 Linneau Ave in Washington DC
I wish I would have gone there when I was in DC.

Dina Merrill is Nedenia m. Hutton. I always thought she was

an absolute beauty

Barbara Hutton was first Cousin to Dina Merrill. Daughter to Merriweather Post Dina married Actor Cliff Robertson.

Glenn Close Godfather was Husband #1 Mr Close the Banker. Are you totally confused? I am.

This was such interesting reading. They were such an item all the time. The world was always watching them..

Cary grant Married Barbara Hutton, The press made a rotten remark,

"It's Cash and Cary" This was not true as he was the only man that never used her. It was so sad the way she was treated and talked about . She was a nice person. She had to be as Cary Grant was friends even to her death bed.
